Dragon’s Tail in Tennessee

Five friends gathered at a local gas station just after daylight to embark on an adventure they have been planning for months. As we saddled up and fired off our engines, the thunder from the Harleys rattled the canopy. We were off to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for three days of mountain riding pleasure! The ride getting there was a mixture of two lane and four lane highways and some nice scenery. But, as we got closer to our final destination for the weekend, the roads got more and more curvy. I was thinking “this is a wonderful prelude to what was ahead”. Oml3ur first road on the second day was The Tail of The Dragon; a section of US 129 from Robbinsville Tennessee to Deals Gap North Carolina. This tail boasts of 318 curves in 11 miles with no side roads or driveway access. This was pure riding pleasure for these five friends on a road trip. My entire riding career I've heard of the Dragon’s Tail but never got a chance to enjoy the pleasures of that ride.  We rode a total of 740 miles just in the curvy highways of Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia. The Cherohala Skyway, Moonshiners 28 Trail and Blue Ridge Parkway ( just to name a few)  combined to make this the most enjoyable ride I've ever been on.
